WHAT IS SKIN CANCER CARE?
It is a well-known fact that Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world and that it is accounts for over 80% of newly diagnosed cancers. There are around 750 000 cases of skin cancer per year and more than 2 000 people per day receive treatment for some form of skin cancer. Sadly, about 2000 patients per year die of skin cancer related disease, and roughly 2 out of 3 Australians will be diagnosed with some form of skin cancer before their 70th birthday.
While these statistics are frightening, most skin cancers can be found early by having regular skin checks by a trained physician.
There are 3 common kinds of skin cancers
- BCC (basal cell carcinoma)
- SCC (squamous cell carcinoma)
- Melanoma
